Bornos has slowly developed on the lakeside over more than 30,000 years. In an area where many cultures have blended together over time, Bornos boasts a fine heritage which has led the town to be listed as a Site of Historical Interest. The jewel in the crown is the Castle-Palace of Los Ribera, which has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest and contains a renaissance garden. Other local monuments include the Corpus Christi Convent, the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Shrine of El Calvario, and the Colegio de la Sangre. The finer cuisine of Bornos includes excellent cured pork meats and traditional dishes like tagarninas esparragadas, and berza. The most popular local festivals are the carnivals, the Easter celebrations, and the fiestas in honour of the patron saints San Laureano and Nuestra Señora del Rosario. On the lake of Bornos it is possible to practice a wide range of nautical sports such as rowing, sailing and fishing. Traces of the transition from the Iberian to the Roman cultures can be found at the archaeological remains in Carissa Aurelia, just a few kilometres from the town, whilst the nearby sierras offer the ideal setting for walking, trekking, horse riding, and mountain biking. There are also attractive itineraries such as Los Molinos, Vía Crucis, a section of the Vía Verde route, and the footpaths leading to the Sierra and the Dam.
