Arcos de la Frontera is one of the most spectacular white-washed villages and the gateway to the ruta de los pueblos blancos, (route of the white villages) tucked amidst the summit and slope of an amazing cut rock that shines a brilliant gold colour in the sun, with stunning landscape views overlooking the River Guadalete winding at its feet. Despite Arcos' fascinating urban architecture, of a probably Pre-Roman origin, its numerous spots recall a Muslim legacy. Its castle, winding roads, steep slopes, towers, gothic-baroque churches, viewpoints from which you can admire wonderful landscapes, stately homes, bright patios and hidden squares are but some of the countless charms this place enjoys. In the surrounding area of Arcos you are also offered the possibility of visiting the sight of Sierra Aznar including in the "Ruta de las Ciudades Romans de los Pueblos Blancos" (Route of the Roman Cities of the White Villages) and one of the Roman cities with the highest number of monuments in Sierra de Cadiz. Besides, visitors can practice hiking, abseiling, cycling, potholing, cycling, horse riding, fishing, sailing in Arcos' lake, hot air balloon, paragliding and golf in the nearby golf course soon to be up and running. Arcos is a place where traditions are persistently retained as one can observe in its celebrations, such as the Holy Week (declared national tourist interest), as well as its cuisine. It is characterised by products derived from the Iberian pork, vegetables, wines and the confectionery which mixes the Andalusi culture with the convent craftsmen's patience.
